Wasting time
|
This complaint letter in intended to inform any hopeful artist/entertainers/models in the Los Angeles area not to waste their time with Model Management Inc.Model Management Inc is running a classic modeling scam whereby they prey on naive hopeful models, by luring them to their offices for multiple meetings(Wasting your time, gas, et cetera), then when they have wasted so much of your time, in a business and town where time is money, they finally mention that they will have to set up an 800$ photo session with their "people", which is how they make their money. This is a classic/obvious scam in the industry and how they even have the audacity to attempt it is bewildering, but it is simple. You are led to believe by a craigslist ad which makes no mention of any fees, that they are a legitimate agency, they meet with you, express interest, then inform you, you'll need new headshots and they can set it all up for you for 800$, clever, NO, hackneyed, yes.I found an ad on craigs list for Model Management, where they seek headshot submissions. I submitted and was contacted by Charlie Wedel, to meet with a representative. I took off from work one day and met with this representative. This cost me a days wages, gas and parking money. Their was no mention of needing new headshots or this 800$ photo session in the craigs list ad or at that meeting where their rep saw my headshots.A few days later I was informed by Charlie Wedel they were interested in representing me. Like any struggling artist, I was excited, I asked Charlie if their were any fees involved, he said "No, they just take 20% of jobs they book you on". That is what legitimate "Agencies" do. You never pay for representation, period. Charlie asked me to come in the next morning. I took another day off from work, and went to sign up for representation. I paid for parking and wasted a lot of gas to find out the person I was supposed to meet was not in the office that day. I called Charlie before I left my house, no mention that the person wasn't there, that day, I called him from the parking garage I could not afford to park in, no mention that this person wasn't there, finally, I park a mile from the office go upstairs, Charlie comes out and informs me the person I am supposed to meet with is not there that day. OK, I (Smell Scam) explicitly ask Charlie if there are any fees involved, will I sign up for representation at this rescheduled meeting, he says they just take 20%, he's seen my headshots and it's a done deal. I rescheduled for 2 days later. At this final meeting, more gas wasted, more parking money, I was finally informed I would have to pay 800$ for a photo session in order for them to represent me. (On a personally/professionally offensive point and to let Model Management, Supervisors know, and know that I will continue to post this info on the net untill I am satisfied) At this final meeting I met with a man (I will be nice and omit his name, for now) who as I entered the office he and Charlie Wedel share, was watching *** on his work computer and thought it was funny that I saw it. Not funny, not professional, offensive.Grounds for dismissal at any job I have ever held. The floor their office is on is shared with a law firm, and I can't help but wonder what the males and females in that office would think if they knew a guy was looking at *** in his office right down the hall from them. I will let Model Management Inc resolve this situation but they will need to comply with the resolution I have laid out below.I would like them to pull their craigslist ads or alter them to reflect the fact that they won't represent talent who don't have these specific photos, which they charge 800$ for. Mention the photo session you will require in any and all ads, period. (And basically stop using this classic scam to prey on hopeful talent) Personally, I will not stop in my crusade against Model Management Inc until I receive 100$ for each of the 3 days of my life they wasted (300$). I lost much more than that in gas, time, parking fees, and wages, so they will be getting off light.Monetary Loss: $300. |
